I came across this news article about the plan of Huawei to launch smart phones next year. Interestingly, they haven’t given out details yet of the specs that will define this smart phone (OS and radio access mode).
The article notes that Huawei’s decision on the specs will weigh heavily on the requirements of their operator customers. It’s also noted that Huawei is not keen in adding WLAN feature on their first smart phone, given that they are mainly talking “to mobile carriers, who tend to view hand-off to a WLAN as lost revenue for them, combined with an operational challenge of maintaining call quality when a user goes onto the unlicensed spectrum of WiFi connectivity.”
This is definitely something to watch out for. Let’s see if Huawei can make a dent on the smart phone arena given that it already has dominance in India and China.
